Planning For a Financial Goal is an excellent, straightforward, and noncommercial introduction to the subject of financial literacy. Presented by Kathleen Scannell and Lyndsay J. Mills, educators at the Financial Literacy Action Center, the tape uses colorful graphics and a pair of animated characters to introduce simple concepts, such as setting goals, determining one's resources (including how to make a balance statement and a cash flow statement), understanding the power of savings over time, and becoming familiar with the basic options in investments. The beauty of the program is that the presenters have taken a very complicated subject and made it accessible to people unfamiliar with financial terminology. The bummer is the workbook; referred to throughout the tape, the workbook contains some fill-in-the-blank pages, coupled with forms at the back of the manual for balance statements and cash flow statements. How your particular library handles the workbook problem will probably affect your decision of whether to purchase this tape. Highly recommended, with the reservation about the workbook.
