While living in my first apartment, I decided to sew a skirt, but didn't understand the instructions for the inseam pocket—so, with my knowledgeable mother 1,000 miles away, I just left out the pocket and stitched up the seam. For those likewise tempted, this program featuring TV host and author Sandra Betzina shows viewers how to put called-for pockets in and even add them as a design detail where they aren't. Using attractive fabrics and colors, Betzina creates simple patch pockets, “invisibly stitched” patch pockets, decorative-only pocket flaps, lined flap pockets, welt pockets with contrasting trim, inseam pockets, and jeans pockets (in addition to the good close-up camerawork, Betzina uses contrasting thread and oversized samples to help viewers follow along). Highly recommended. Aud: H, P. (R. Reagan)
