According to a study conducted by the AARP, 1 out of 3 people over 50 in the U.S. will require some form of long-term health care. With nursing home care currently running at an average cost of $72 a day, the AARP figures are enough to give one pause. Prepare For Care examines the options: savings, family, insurance, estate assets, medicaid, and a trust fund, and suggests that for many people insurance may be the best option. Although my suspicions were immediately aroused, the arguments presented in the program make sense, and not one insurance company is either named or listed in the program. Instead, the program outlines the key questions viewers should be prepared to ask when looking for good insurance, such as whether the policy covers home care, whether it takes into account inflation, whether there is a guaranteed renewability clause, etc. With the average cost of nursing home care running $22,000 annually and the average stay lasting nearly 3 years, this program offers a sobering guide to the realities of long term care. Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. (Available from: Video Marketing Resources, 1400 High St., Suite A1, Eugene, OR 97401, as well as Quality Books and Baker & Taylor Video.)
