The ancient Chinese tradition of Qi Gong (or "qigong") is known as the "art of effortless power." Qi Gong for Better Breathing focuses on the qi or energy derived from breathing. Master trainer Lee Holden demonstrates a routine that slows inhalation and exhalation in order to help send oxygen to all of the organs to both energize and cleanse the body. Qigong focuses primarily on health prevention and these exercises are designed to remove stress and tension from the muscles, help calm the nervous system, and restore vitality to the body. Deep stomach breathing and spiral movements of the arms and upper body are used for most of the routines, which are set outdoors in a redwood forest near a clear flowing stream (the calming sounds of nature and beautiful surroundings help provide a relaxing atmosphere). Backed by Holden’s inspirational words, the exercises presented here are appropriate for all levels of fitness. Recommended. Aud: P. (T. Root)
