Radon, a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas which is produced when uranium decays, is estimated to be a problem today in millions of homes. This timely program informs viewers about the dangers of radon, while also advising them about what to do to both check radon levels in the home, and make the necessary adjustments to bring high radon levels down. Developed with the help and support of the EPA, Radon Free is narrated by Dr. Alan Xenakis, and contains many interviews with EPA experts, as well as a moving testimony from the Watras family. Living in a house with radiation levels some 1,000 times higher than the FDA's threshold amount, the Watras family were living in a nightmare: the equivalent of smoking 220 packs of cigarettes per day. The Watras' case led the EPA to conduct nationwide studies which determined that as much as one-third of American families, and one-half of our nation's schools may be at risk from high radon levels. The EPA booklet "A Citizen's Guide to Radon" is included with this informative and well-produced program. Libraries which already have Radon: A Homeowner's Guide (reviewed May 1989) may want to consider adding this program too. Highly recommended.
