Young hosts take viewers behind-the-scenes to look at several editorial positions at the Orlando Sentinel newspaper in this addition to the Real Life 101 career information series. Picking the brains of a breaking news editor (whose hectic job involves working closely with the Internet), visuals editor (who focuses on the look of the paper, while also overseeing the photographers, designers, and artists), public editor (who works to maintain the ethical standards and accountability of the paper), and senior vice-president and editor (“not a job for wimps”), this half-hour-shy program touches on duties, hours, benefits, and challenges, while also underscoring the importance of education, as well as interning for experience. Offering a brief but encompassing look at the world of print newspaper editing (though one editor's enjoyment of the smell of ink in the air may be a thing of the past if others follow the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's lead in turning web-based), this is recommended. [Note: other new titles in the Real Life 101 series include Aviation, Construction, Creative Design, and Surgery.] Aud: H, C, P. (J. Williams-Wood)
