Bob Flexner is not only an expert craftsman, he's a man with heart and soul. In the World According to Flexner, you don't just get out the hammer and the glue and chop socky some old chair into working condition. No-o. On the contrary, Mr. Flexner is a man who believes strongly in the ethics of furniture repair. Now, ethics and furniture may not turn up too often as a pair in free association, but it's refreshing to see someone who truly cares this much about his work. At the same time, Mr. Flexner believes in time-saving (not corner cutting) ways to get the job done well. In Repairing Furniture, viewers will learn the difference between good and bad repairs, the various types and suitability of glues, cleaning and repairing joints, and a host of other tips and tricks. In Refinishing Furniture, viewers learn when to revive rather than strip an existing finish; staining, sealing, and using various finishes; and adjusting finishes. Repairing Furniture won a best craft video award at the 1987 American Video Conference. Both tapes are highly recommended. (Available from: Taunton Press, Box 355, Newtown CT 06470;1-800-243-7252.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
