Celebrity trainer Grace Lazenby instructs this glamorized workout combining various styles that rely on an eclectic soundtrack by artists Matt Goss, Greg Laswell, and Cary Brothers (to the point that the routines are more defined by songs such as “Firefly” and “Evil” than the actual areas being targeted). Set against a flashy backdrop (including superimposed footage of So Cal sights, and dramatic lighting), Lazenby and a quartet of her “rockin models” perform customary moves such as plies, balancing, leg and arm presses, oblique work, isometric contractions, and more, in routines that include yoga segments, standing ballet, and core training (along with gluteal, and outer and inner thigh work), as well as warm-up and cool-down stretches. The quick-paced flamboyant workout—which includes a Fosse-style jazz cane for a barre, hat and costume changes, constant attention to “tempo,” and the suggestion to “straddle your mat”—offers a challenging, sultry spin on the genre.
