There is really little to distinguish between the above three tapes on drumming. All are well done; though each features a slightly different emphasis. Rod Morgenstein, former drummer for the jazz-rock-fusion-country (and more) band Dixie Dregs, and current stickman for ex-Dreg head Steve Morse's band, covers the widest variety of musical styles when showing viewers drumming techniques. Steve Smith, ex-Journey drummer and currently heading up Vital Information, covers some basics and gives special attention to five and seven note sticking patterns. (Although the Smith tape is the second part of a drumming seminar, it stands alone.) Terry Bozzio, founder of Missing Persons, opens his tape with an extended drum solo, which he then breaks down and demonstrates for viewers step-by-step. Bozzio has some good suggestions for effective bass and double bass drum techniques. Purchase according to demand; all three are highly recommended, and consistent with DCI's elevated music instruction standards. (Available from: DCI, 541 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10011.)
