Someone please call the Montage Police and have filmmaker/editor Jan Skugstad's license pulled. Accompanied by nothing but New-Age music, the five-second montage format of Norwegian wonders presented here gets real old, real fast. Great church! Is it Catholic or Prot--hey! Cool statue of a dude playing soccer! Who is---Pretty wildflower! What is--Hey! Awesome standing stone! Is it Neolithic or--Wow! Beautiful fjord; how was it --? You get the idea. Quite honestly, forty-eight minutes of un-narrated shots of seashore, rocks, landscapes, boats, flowerpots, etc. goes from being annoying (why show us if you're not going to tell us about it?) to boring. However, in the middle of the tape, sudden, inexplicable attention is given to Mr. and Mrs. Finn Helland's rather ordinary suburban garden--it actually gets its own title card and everything. Except for place names flashed on screen, everything else remains anonymous, apparently not worth the trouble of describing. Easily a "skipable" purchase, even for diehard Norwegophiles. Aud: P. (R. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
