Rubber stamping (and its partner scrapbooking) is one of the biggest new crafting trends. In Rubber Paper Scissors, Judi Watanabe—artist, author, TV personality, and founder of JudiKins, a rubber stamp and supplies company—demonstrates how to make a number of stamped card projects. Beginning with an overview of stamping techniques and terminology, Watanabe introduces a basic supply kit for novice stampers (although successive projects call for more and more specialized items—a warning to any budget-conscious crafter). Techniques covered include using plain shapes to create a geometric design, colored pencils to brighten up images, embossing powders and a heat tool to achieve a raised effect, masks to layer several stamped images, dramatic backgrounds to set off the stamps, and creative folding and window cut-outs, as well as how to make pop-up images. A handy visual index “gallery” of Watanabe's work enables viewers to easily jump straight to the associated technique. Recommended.
