SARS? Wasn't that last year? Well, yes and no: 2003 did indeed witness significant outbreaks of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Canada; however, as recently as April 2004, new cases of SARS were reported in China, and at least two people remain hospitalized as of late May. SARS Update, hosted by Chris Curie, is a 2003 introduction to the disease, combining live-action footage, onscreen graphics, and voiceover narration to offer the definition, history, transmission methods, symptoms, and progression of this virulent coronavirus. In addition, the program looks at CDC (Center for Disease Control) recommendations, explains the differences between the WHO's (World Health Organization) “travel advisory” and “travel alert,” and suggests common sense precautions to take in the case of a reemergence of SARS. An informative and practical guide that is also sure to be appreciated by students doing research papers, this is recommended.
