Presented by Canine Behavior Consultant (aka "dog trainer") Jane Gadbury, See Jane Train Spot 1 offers a fair amount of good information on raising and training dogs--ranging from the standard repertoire of commands ("sit," "stay," etc.) to grooming tips and "socialization" suggestions. But the combination of relatively amateur production values, combined with some poor organizational choices and gaps hurt the program. For instance, the command "come" is taught, but before one gets to "sit," the program covers games to play and grooming techniques). And, the section on problems only mentions jumping up on people and furniture. Much of the production appears to have been shot in a field, and many of the same scenes are used for different parts of the overlaid narration. Too, when Gadbury does speak directly to the camera, it's almost always accompanied by background noise. On this particular subject, there are already too many other good programs, such as The Complete Canine Training Video (reviewed in our April 1991 issue). Not a necessary purchase. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
