Registered nurse Mary Ronan uses a seminar style to present a very thorough examination of sexuality to a live mixed student audience in this series aimed at junior and senior high school level viewers. Divided into six separate 25-minute seminars on two tapes, the first volume opens with a look at the decision making process, advising students on the factors that influence decision making, and offering suggestions for choosing wisely. Next, viewers learn about sexually transmitted diseases in all their gory symptomatic detail, and are informed about the birds and bees of sexual reproduction. The final segment focuses on the realities of teen pregnancy, including medical expenses, the costs of caring for a child, changes in relationships, staying in school vs. entering the workforce, and health risks. Volume two opens with a discussion of the religious and moral aspects of choosing abstinence, concluding with an exploration of good and harmful relationships, and a Q&A session. Ronan is a gifted presenter who uses humor and a light-hearted approach (without diminishing the seriousness of the topics), and relates well to the target age group. She encourages students to make decisions regarding sexual activity a matter of prayer and personal revelation, reminds viewers that sexuality is a gift from God, and voices opinions regarding homosexuality and masturbation that may or may not be shared by parents offering guidance at home. While this would be inappropriate for secular schools, it is recommended for religious settings as well as public libraries, especially considering the added bonus of a 70 minute stand-alone video for parents, Raising Your Children in an Ungodly World, and companion book, both included in the purchase price.
