The fifth entry in First Light Video Publishing's Shaping Your Sound series, hosted by producer and recording engineer Tom Lubin, is another informative, and often humorous guide to getting the best sound possible in the recording studio-whether it's professional or just at home. Lubin begins with an overview of the tape recorder, tape speed and track width, and how recording actually occurs. Then he takes singer/songwriter Janice Hubbard's song "Check It Out" from bare bones to multi-layered finished recording, demonstrating techniques for bouncing tracks, overdubbing, shifting pitch, using backwards tape effects, and others along the way. As an instructor, Lubin is genial, well versed in his subject area, and has a good sense of humor. Home recording enthusiasts will learn much from this excellent program. Highly recommended for libraries with large music instruction holdings. (See THE FILM SCORE for availability.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
