Singer's Workout

The arts are timeless, and in the case of this video lesson in becoming a viable pop singer, that's a good thing, since it was apparently made in the late ‘80s (host Buddy Mix references the 1987 Grammy Awards as if they were recent), appeared again in the mid-‘90s (1996 copyright at the end of the program), and now comes to us newly ported over to DVD with a 2002 copyright on the case--which, according to present cataloging practice as set down by AV cataloging gurus, makes this a 2002 product! If only my birthdays worked that way. In any case, the impish Mix leads viewers through a series of exercises and performance tips for honing one's singing abilities, with individual sections for men and women, concluding with a music video that also dates the production with its mid-tempo lushness. And therein lies the rub: while the arts may be timeless, they're also constantly changing, so for those would-be singers looking for contemporary guidance, this stuff will sound comparatively ancient.
