So what if basic transportation these days means four wheels instead of four hooves? Americans love horses, and with parks and private ranches offering horseback rides to the public, any city slicker with a desire to saddle up and ride can now do just that. Before these greenhorns prove a danger to themselves and others, however, they should view this human-training tape. The basic instruction covers saddling, bridling and mounting up, with safety emphasized at every phase. Viewers will learn about English and Western riding, though Western style predominates in most examples. The program offers advice for riding in all kinds of weather, and constant reminders to consider the horse's comfort and well-being. While the tape is not meant to replace live instruction in a ring, it will give beginners a good idea what to expect. Since there are 40,000 riding accidents annually, most public libraries will want to provide both this and Every Time...Every Ride (VL-3/96) for their clientele. Highly recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
