Former astronaut Jack Lousma, veteran of Skylab and space shuttle missions, shares his recollections of the differences between the two and answers common questions ("How do you eat?" "How do you go to the bathroom?") in non-technical language in this fine introduction to living conditions in space. The program features plenty of footage showing astronauts performing their duties while experiencing weightlessness, and traces the radically changing evolution of space travel and astronaut environments over the years. Viewers will see the differences between the very first efforts to live in space and the--by contrast, spacious--conditions enjoyed by shuttle crews today. Middle and high school students may come away from this short and interesting video with a greater respect for the space program overall. Recommended. Aud: J, H, P. (J. Carlson)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
