If you happen to be contemplating hunting the Rio Grande turkey in Texas next spring, then this program will be of help and interest to you. The Fosters, a father and son veteran turkey hunting team, begin by demonstrating the slate turkey call they have devised (and are selling) for calling turkeys. In addition, they also demonstrate the older box calls and mouth calls, and for each they show viewers how to imitate the three basic calls: the yelp, the purr, and the cluck. The discussion on turkey psychology, and the differences between jakes and hens is interesting, and the Fosters take their knowledge out on the road to show viewers proper camouflage techniques, as well as shooting techniques ("you can't outdraw a turkey," they say; therefore your shotgun must be in the ready position). Finally, Charles Foster, Sr. and Bruce Gaylor team up on a hunt for a boss gobbler, which they do, indeed, bag. While the instruction is good, and the footage of wild turkeys interesting to watch, the highly specific nature of the program makes it of limited usefulness to the general public. Purchase according to need. (Available from: Tru-Texan Enterprises, P.O. Box 720484, Houston, TX 77272.)
