Master potter Stephen Jepson offers an excellent introduction to the art and craft of throwing clay on a pottery wheel in this inspiring guide. Opening with a brief overview of clay and recommended tools, Jepson shows viewers step-by-step how to make a "doggie dish" (a low, flat bowl). He demonstrates how to center and open up the clay, make a bottom, raise a wall, and compress the rim. This is followed by segments devoted to mugs, bowls, cylinders, and pitchers. Jepson takes particular care to cover the fine points of handle pulling, and he offers sound tips on trimming and making pitcher spouts. Good close-up camerawork, assured instruction, and some mighty fine looking results make Stephen Jepson's Introduction to Throwing Clay on a Pottery Wheel a winner. Highly recommended.
