A literacy program for young children developed by the Baltimore County Public Library, the goal of the "Story Timers" program is to ensure that “children enter school ready to learn and ready to succeed in life.” Story Timers consists of a videotape and manual for training volunteers on how to implement the Story Timers program in other libraries. Clearly laid out and easy to follow, the package defines learning objectives, provides the scientific basis for the importance of early literacy training, outlines early literacy behaviors, spells out volunteer jobs in terms of qualities and skills, and explains in detail procedures for instituting the program. An excellent and inspirational guide to a winning early literacy volunteer program, this is highly recommended. Editor's Choice. Aud: C, P. (S. Fisher)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
