String fun with parables was no doubt the kind of fun project everyone else was doing at summer camp while I was sneaking around behind the activities center with Theresa Mayers. Now, do you want to hear the rest of that story or hear about the string parables? Okay, first the review. In this sequel to String Magic From Around the World (VL-6/97), David Titus once again discusses string safety and shows some basic tricks (nicely repeated from three different angles). Here, however, I felt at times that the video was straining to make well established string tricks fit into Biblical stories. Hence, the ladder trick becomes "Jacob's Ladder," the man going up the tree becomes "Zacchaeus the Tax Collector," the fish swimming become "the Loaves and Fishes" and so on. The analogies feel a little forced; still this is an enjoyable and--I'll venture--unique program. As for Theresa Mayers, she knew something about stringing boys on...but that's a whole other ball of yarn, best not unraveled here. Recommended. Aud: P. (R. Ray)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
