"And they lived happily ever after…” Maybe in fairy tales, but in the real world a substantial number of marriages end in divorce. In the talk-show styled Surviving Divorce, one of 10 episodes in the Talk Box series, host journalist Katy Sai and a guest child psychologist explore with an all-kid audience the difficulties that children face when their parents' relationship ends in a decidedly non-fairytale-like fashion. When warring parents are overwhelmed by their own emotions, kids often get lost in the shuffle, and their needs and problems--security, confusion, sadness, stress--can be overlooked. Unfortunately, while the program does offer some practical coping strategies, overall the video suffers from a lack of coherence--there's no real beginning and a very abrupt ending--and the tech qualities are somewhat amateurish. A better choice here would be Surviving Your Parents' Divorce (VL-7/94). Other titles in the 10-part series include: Coping with Change, Body Image, Puberty, Fighting Discrimination and Teenage Moms. Optional. Aud: I, J, P. (E. Gieschen)
