Offering teens guidance for safely enjoying the sun, Teens & Tanning: Sun Safety Update suggests that fashion maven Coco Chanel's 1920 post-cruise tan marked the beginning of the widespread transition from delicate peaches-and-cream complexions to the “bronze age” of sun devotees. Touting the sun as a good source of Vitamin D and a proven mood improver, the program also examines the downside of overexposure to the sun's rays, which may include photo-aging, skin damage (such as increased wrinkles) and cancer (a major focus of the program), as well as looking at the dangers of tanning beds and pills (which could harm eyesight!). Including interviews with dermatologist Carolyn Jacob and a woman with a history of skin cancer, the program alerts viewers to safer alternatives such as spray-tan and tanning lotions, sunscreen, protective clothing, and sunglasses. A useful and informative myth-busting guide, this is highly recommended. Aud: J, H, P. (J. Williams-Wood)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
