Creating fantastic animal beasties (what some potters call “uglies”) is a growing trend with artisans, especially in tourist areas, and this clear, concise tape offers a good introduction to making what sculptor Robert Maxwell calls "the fun stuff." Here, the animal shapes start out as a basic thrown vase, which are then morphed into critters with ears, tails, horns, and “fur” if desired. Sporting great camerawork from a variety of angles and a handy list of necessary supplies before each segment, the tape's only weakness is the lack of specific instructions concerning firing times or temperatures. Despite this oversight, there are bound to be people anxious to get started with these projects, and this program will get them going. Recommended. Aud: J, H, C, P. (R. Reagan)
