Although most libraries have an abundance of print materials on the basics of electric wiring, there are relatively few DVDs available on the subject. Seeing how electricity flows (through animated diagrams here) not only speaks a thousand words, but might also save a home fixer-upper from a hair-raising shock or worse in this well-done production that offers a clear and concise overview of common household wiring, complete with appropriate warnings and safety guidelines. Every major link in the home power chain is covered, from the main breaker panel to a variety of common outlets and switches. Viewers learn about the relationship between amps, volts and watts; wiring conventions (such as why some screw terminals are brass and others are silver); circuit breakers; wire gauge (thickness); ground fault interrupters; and proper installation techniques; among other topics. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (C. Block)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
