The most critical period for brain development is from zero to five years old. The Brain: Developing Memory in Developing Brains offers practical tips for teachers, parents, and caregivers to help infants and children develop life and memory skills, while also embracing the joy of learning. Viewers learn the names and functions of the main parts of the brain, the difference between long- and short-term memory, and why multisensory approaches and repetition are important. Simple activities such as baby massage and finger play are presented as ways to help enhance cognitive growth. Although the format is a bit awkward (a semi-farcical interview with a brain development expert is combined with scenes of a mom and her kids demonstrating suggested activities), the information is valuable and this will be a welcome resource for anyone working with youngsters. Recommended. Aud: C, P. (E. Gieschen)
