The Daycare Dilemma

Produced by Nannys Unlimited, this guide to choosing a day care counsels parents to consider their needs, think about location, and look at their budgets before settling on the type of childcare appropriate for them. Following these introductory remarks, the host talks about the minimum requirements that parents should expect from a daycare facility or childcare services, and then offers suggestions on what to inquire about during a telephone interview with prospective daycares (caregiver/child ratio, staff qualifications, nap policy, insurance, etc.). During a sample tour, the host refers viewers to a "question checklist" which is not included with the library version (a sticker on the tape tells parents where to write for a free checklist), and the tape concludes with commentary from child psychologist Dr. Roger Smith concerning the child's transition to daycare, separation anxiety, and parental guilt. Neither as comprehensive nor as useful as Selecting Day Care For Your Child (reviewed in our July-August 1990 issue), The Daycare Dilemma is still a good, inexpensive choice. Recommended.
