Produced by the Baltimore County Public Schools system, this 17-part series features Child Development Specialist Dr. Frances Bond and other professionals offering guidance and support to parents of young children. In Developing A Positive Self-Esteem, professionals discuss what self-esteem is, what characteristics indicate a good self-esteem (as well as which suggest a poor self-esteem), and what parents can do to nurture their children's self-esteem. The information is sound, and the presentation mixes advice from professionals with commentary from parents. Unfortunately, the 17 programs in the series--most under a half-hour--are available on 17 videocassettes making the cost of the series a sobering $2,540. We can recommend this particular title, but given the size, scope, and financial commitment of the entire series, we suggest that those interested request preview tapes of a sampling of titles in the series. Other topics include: importance of reading, selecting literature, influence of TV, selecting toys, taking trips, education, choosing day care, coping with divorce, and summer activities. (See Digger: Portrait Of A Bamboo Fly Rod Maker for availability.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
