Raymond Burr is the host of this beautifully produced promotional piece for careers in library and information science. Geared towards students who are entering the job market, the program begins with an overview of the many different types of libraries, followed by interviews with a number of different people in a variety of positions (public library director, children's services librarian, law librarian, art librarian, school library media specialist, etc.). The focus is on the importance of these careers in providing information to our society. And, no doubt about it, this video, with its flashy use of micros and databases, makes our profession look like the hottest thing to come down the pike since sliced bread. (We know better, don't we?). My wife, who works in technical services for a public library, got the giggles over the section on technical services, but what the hey? It's a great recruitment tool, and if this doesn't reel 'em in, I don't know what will (New Kids on the Block Trade in Rap for Reference, maybe). Highly recommended. (Available from: ALA Video, 50 E. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
