Don't you love the beautiful colors of flowers in the springtime? How drab the world would be without them! But plants do much more than just make the Earth pretty: plants are absolutely necessary for all other life to survive, mostly as a lower link on the food chain, but also due to their oxygen-producing capabilities. In addition, plants serve a variety of useful functions, from supplying fibers for clothing and extracts for medicine to providing energy. In this basic, straightforward video, viewers briefly explore the relationship between plants and animals, with key terms highlighted throughout, and a final 10-question video quiz. The accompanying curriculum expands on the information on the tape with suggested experiments and activities. Although the price may be a bit high for some classrooms, this is a solid, no-frills introduction to major concepts concerning the plant kingdom. Recommended for those without similar fare such as Plant Life in Action (VL-9/00). Aud: E, I. (E. Gieschen)
