The Job Hunter's Resource Guide: How To Get Hired In The 90s

This "all-new version of the nationally best-selling video, Interview Techniques and Resume Tips for the Job Applicant certainly makes me wonder what that earlier title was like, because this "new" version is pretty weak. The program opens with a typical "bad interview" skit that demonstrates all of the ways not to get a job. It's neither better nor worse than many others, but you do notice right away that the video quality is substandard (this poor picture quality continues throughout the tape). Hosted by Bob Levey, a Washington, D.C. newspaper columnist and radio commentator, the program is divided into seven chapters: choosing a career, finding job openings, resumes and cover letters, appearance, information about the employer, the interview, and the follow-up. The chapter on the interview includes a detailed examination of the opening "bad interview" skit, as well as an "interactive" exercise in which the "employer" on the tape asks questions to the camera (i.e. the viewer). The opening chapters on choosing a career, finding job openings, and writing resumes and cover letters are cursory, at best, with an absolute minimum of information, while the "bad interview" scene is dragged out and redundant. There are numerous "job hunting" tapes on the market, and just about any other title would be a better bet than this low-budget, low-informational content program. Not recommended.
