Told from the point of view of an outfitting and training company (led by Wayne Dickert and Joe Holt), The Kayaker's Toolbox presents a fun, comprehensive course on whitewater kayaking, focusing on five major subjects: boat control, water reading, rolling, river running, and (most important) safety. Dickert and Holt are careful to point out that some techniques may work well for one person but might not for another (the group of people shown training here vary in age, sex, and physical ability), while also illustrating how the mind and body must interact in order to deal with the constantly-changing conditions of the river. Featuring two different versions of the same material—one in-depth, the other allowing for quick review—this program won't replace a skilled trainer, but it could go a long way towards getting would-be kayakers ready. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (C. Block)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
