A former intelligence officer with the elite Israeli Army Special Forces, Tamar Geller also studied wolves, observing game-based behavior lessons that she later applied to domesticated dogs, eventually helping to tame the pets of celebrities including Oprah Winfrey. In The Loved Dog, Geller argues that ‘doggie needs' are similar to those of a toddler, as she cover topics such as using simple language with your dog (and ensuring that all family members use the same vocabulary for maximum clarity), setting up a value system of treats (categorized as gold, silver, and bronze, and making sure that Fido never gets something without working for it), and effective ways to make foundational commands such as “sit,” “come,” “down,” and “stay” actually stick, all the while stressing the importance of staying patient. DVD extras include a bonus housebreaking lesson, quick tips, and a text bio of Geller. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
