The New World Explored

People are more aware than ever of the travails suffered by American aboriginal people as the first Europeans tramped across their lands in search of gold and other treasure in the 16th century. This video adds no new insights; however, it does present solid, accurate information which will be very valuable in the classroom. The tape features good graphics, beautiful cinematography (including costumed re-enactments which will keep younger students' interest), artwork, and engaging interviews. In common with other Rainbow titles, the teacher's guide is a gem, with diverse and interesting extension activities such as journalistic entries, point/counterpoint comparisons, map creation, and more. The pacing and vocabulary make the tape ideal for the high-school level, but younger students could also gain much if introductory discussion is used and the tape is paused for further questioning and elaboration (isn't video great, compared to the movies of olden days?)
