Part of the Pilates Fitness Body Control series, The Perfect Body, hosted by U.K. Pilates expert Lynne Robinson (sporting her trademark black shoulder-length hair with grey racing-stripe bangs), is designed to condition and strengthen postural muscles around the middle of the body, creating a “girdle of strength” to enhance basic alignment and core stability in the neutral spine, support the back, and help keep the body flexible. Following an introduction by Robinson on the basics of the Pilates method and the importance of precision and control, viewers can choose one of two workouts: the first targets the abs and circulatory system, while toning and trimming the waist, thighs, and buttocks using moves such as the side quadriceps stretch; the second focuses on strengthening the spine using wall exercises, spine curls, and pushups. The program also features a section entitled “The Series of Five”—with five classical Pilates movements—and a relaxation session, designed to, well, bring the program to the peaceful end credits. A well-balanced approach to an exercise method designed to enhance both wellness and balance, this handsomely produced program is recommended. Several other Pilates titles featuring Robinson are also available, including The Pilates Body: The Pilates Way with Lynne Robinson, Pilates for Pregnancy with Lynne Robinson, and Pilates Powerhouse with Lynne Robinson.
