The Right Choices, designed for classroom/group use, presents four vignettes of teens in problem situations where they must identify what is right and what is wrong and determine the best solution. The plots are open ended to allow for classroom discussion of the on-screen questions presented. Situations include a jealous student who breaks up with his girlfriend and threatens to beat up her new boyfriend, two boys who go to the beach with an older teen friend who gets too drunk to drive them home safely, a girl whose social life is causing her grades to drop, and a group of friends who like to make fun of a handicapped classmate. Viewers are given the opportunity to learn the process of making good choices, become aware that choices have consequences, predict possible outcomes to difficult decisions, and develop the ability to chose wisely. The actors come across as genuine and unstilted, the scenarios are timely and realistically portrayed, and the pacing is adequate to maintain the attention of the 5th-9th grade age group for which this video workshop was designed. The accompanying 40-page teacher's manual includes a script, program summary, worksheets, bibliography, and suggested classroom activities. Recommended. Aud: I, J. (L. Stevens)
