The next time you're having trouble falling asleep, rouse your spouse: a rigorous bout of sex can hook insomniacs up with the sandmen (this is especially true for men, since they prefer to savor the nuances of an emotionally satisfying lovemaking session by...snoring). Of course, waking up a significant other who doesn't feel like going from R.E.M. sleep to hunka hunka burnin' love could possibly lead to a very stressful situation. Fortunately, The Secrets of Alive! covers both insomnia and stress, as well as a number of other general health issues. Culled from the Canadian TV series, the program features host Joyce Resin and expert interviewees offering advice on a number of topics: stretching in the morning, the importance of breakfast (people who eat breakfast live longer), diet tips, care for the back, stress breakers, and exercise tips. I discovered something very important: vacuuming burns 7 calories a minute, while going up and down stairs burns 9 calories a minute--obviously I'm being very health-conscious when Anne, my wife, says the word "vacuuming" and I run downstairs. And I also came to understand the needs of vegetables a little better; asparagus, for example, "likes" to be stored upright in the fridge in a little bit of water. All in all, you'll learn about good sleep habits, a better diet, solid exercise choices, and, hopefully, you'll stop abusing your asparagus. Recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
