Lenore Howe, who has been creating Shaker-style chairs for the past 11 years, is the instructor for this guide to refurbishing old chairs with new patterns. Howe talks about the history of the Shaker chair, advises viewers on what materials will be necessary to make their own, and then takes viewers through the weaving of several seat patterns: checkerboard, herringbone, diamond, radial, and jeans twill, concluding with suggestions for how the viewer can design their own Shaker chair. The video and audio qualities are fine, the instruction well presented, and the subject matter a good one for a crafts tape. Our only complaint was a single, brief, but totally blatant ad for Sturges products during the course of the instruction. Aside from this, The Shaker Chair: Weaving Patterns & Techniques is recommended.(See CONCERTO! for availability.)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
