Divided into three parts--"The Sustainable Forest," "Harvesting the Timber," and "Eco Certification and the New Forest Economy," this program looks at Merve Wilkinson's Wildwood forest on Vancouver Island (which is presented as a "fantastic example" of selective harvesting of timber); profiles low impact, commercial thinning in a second growth forest (one of the first "FSC eco-certified forests"); and examines marketing/manufacturing of eco-certified wood products. A low-key program with a step-by-step explanation of how to manage selective harvesting, this well-meaning, but slow-moving, video features interviews and commentary from eco-committed foresters and wood manufacturers. Anyone seriously interested in ecologically sound foresting would appreciate the insights and tips found in this grassroots effort. Recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (S. Fisher)
