Few jobs are obtained through want ads or submission of resumes; in fact, these traditional search techniques account for only about one-third of filled positions. That means that two-thirds are filled through non-traditional methods. The strategies taught in this video prevent job seekers from wasting time on passive methods that don't yield results, allowing them to focus on more active and ultimately effective means. Author J. Michael Farr does the job seeker a service by re-defining the meaning of "interview" as"...any face-to-face contact with someone who hires or supervises a person with your skills regardless of whether there is a current job opening or not." Reminding viewers that all too often people land jobs because they "know someone," Farr encourages job-seekers to get leads from people they know (most effective) and direct contact with employers. He also provides specific techniques for seeking employment through word of mouth, networking, referrals, and researching companies. An excellent resource, this is highly recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
