When I was about 4-years-old, I asked my father why it gets dark at night, and since he was a science teacher, I didn't get the usual "just because," but instead was taught the Earth's rotation and its place in the solar system, thanks to a rubber ball, an orange, and a flashlight--a demo that actually made sense to an inquisitive little kid. Watching this introduction to planet Earth makes sense too, and not just because it uses a flashlight or presents our world as a spinning ball (ah, memories!). Packed full of basic geography terms, concepts, and skills, this superb program uses a logical, common-sense approach with object lessons on the continents, oceans, and placement of the equator and poles that students will easily understand. With kid hosts, great graphics, and an instant review of new vocabulary or facts as they are presented, this overview is an entertaining way to introduce essential geography concepts. Highly recommended. Aud: E, I. (E. Gieschen)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
