This entry in the U.S. History series packs an incredible amount of information into less than half an hour, as seven multicultural teens take viewers at a blistering pace through the formative years of the young United States, from the presidential administrations of George Washington through Abraham Lincoln. Key historical events, concepts, and individuals—such as the Louisiana Purchase, Manifest Destiny, and Dred Scott—are highlighted along the way. A solid overview of U.S. history, the program is designed to simply introduce or enhance a more comprehensive curriculum, with a rotation of talking heads reciting facts, but little in the way of historical documents, maps, photos, or other visual aids, although the accompanying material includes lesson plans, handouts, games, quizzes, and worksheets. Other titles in the series include Women's Movement, Civil Reforms, America at War 1689–1865, and Economic Changes. As a history-in-a-nutshell approach to the topic, this is recommended Aud: H, P. As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
