More than 90% of diabetics have Type 2 diabetes, which signifies insulin resistance as opposed to insulin deficiency (Type 1). Because Type 2 diabetes tends to be related to lifestyle choices, weight, and age, it can be managed through diet and exercise as well as medication. This program is specifically designed to train nurses and caretakers, especially of the elderly, in treating and managing Type 2 diabetes patients, offering practical instruction in a number of areas (including, for example, a step-by-step primer on how to take a blood glucose level reading, and how to administer a subcutaneous injection of insulin). Although this program might be somewhat informative to people diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, it is still primarily a clinical training video and therefore contains much information specifically geared towards healthcare professionals. Two additional caveats: first, since this is an Australian production, the international standard of millimoles per litre (mmol/L) is used for measuring blood glucose, rather than the U.S. standard of milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). Second, as a clinical training video, the program includes graphic images of diabetes-related sores and wounds. Recommended for medical libraries and larger healthcare collections. Aud: C, P. (E. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
