Latin music and styles have never been more popular and, naturally, the fitness industry wants to jump on the red hot bandwagon. Here Brazilian born Elise Foss leads viewers through a hip-shaking, shoulder-shimmying routine that is fun, if not especially innovative, consisting of fairly typical choreography that Ms. Foss explains and demonstrates very well, and then repeats to rather ordinary Latin style music. Although Ms. Foss's overdose of cheeriness becomes somewhat grating, I liked the "real people" in the background, and the routine is a nice low impact one that is suitable for beginners everywhere. Of notable interest is the fact that the tape is also available in a Spanish language version--making it one of the few multi-language workout tapes created for Hispanic viewers. A so-so program for general collections, but libraries serving Hispanic populations will definitely want to consider the Spanish version. Aud: P. (E. Druda)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
