Volunteers: We Couldn't Do It Without Them!

This film will blow the minds of the library staff that never accepts volunteers as well as the one that gleefully accepts every warm body that walks in the door. We are told here that volunteers are in fact indispensable to all libraries, but that volunteers must be managed (yes, managed!) just like paid personnel, complete with job descriptions and expectations, recruitment and interviews for open positions, orientation packages, standardized training, appropriate acknowledgment of effort, and regular evaluation. Utilizing interviews with volunteer coordinators (always paid staff!), successful volunteers, and other library staff, this realistic and inspirational video explains the benefits and start-up procedures of an effective volunteer program, and includes a very helpful reference sheet of tips, resources, and organizations.
