After making numerous action-packed breathtaking films spotlighting skiers, Warren Miller now introduces viewers to the increasingly popular sport of snowboarding. Viewers visit the Burton Method Center where they'll learn how to pick out a snowboard and select appropriate outdoor gear, as well as review some important safety tips for staying warm and hydrated. Once the bindings are attached to the snowboard, the instructor hits the slopes, demonstrating the basics of falling, turning, and stopping, before moving on to master the fine art of getting on and off the chairlift without inflicting bodily harm on one's self or others. After a look at the rules of winter sports etiquette, the program moves on to the advanced techniques of boarding down steep terrain, assaying jumps, and negotiating moguls, trees, and bumps, before concluding with a short music video featuring boarding experts showing off their stuff (don't try these stunts yourself--these guys have logged lots of slope time and probably pay more for health insurance than they would like to admit). Overall, while this title presents a good introduction to the sport, it is inexplicably priced for the video store rental market (unfortunately, the excellent and affordable program Boarding School [VL-3/95] is no longer readily available). Recommended, if and when it's released at sell-through. Happy Boarding! Aud: P. (L. Stevens)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
