Why is the ocean salty? How do sports drinks work? How do you make "hard" water "soft"? Water: Highway of Life, part of the Simply Science series, answers these and many other questions. Students will learn how water's ability to dissolve other substances makes it an excellent medium for transport, study the structure of water molecules and see how ionic compounds are formed, and explore the concept of diffusion. I watched the DVD version of the program, which was divided into chapters each focusing on a property of water, and then further subdivided into short segments that covered a particular focus point--allowing for viewing by individual segment, chapter, or in its entirety. Navigating through the titles is easy and seamless, and the solid organization, presentation and graphics will help make the topics easy to grasp. Aimed at high school and entry level college students, this engaging program also includes a 20-page teacher's guide with a list of scientific principles and vocabulary, a final review of the program, pre-tests, post-tests, and student handouts. Highly recommended. Aud: H, C. (L. Stevens)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
