To paraphrase the Alien tag line, "in water no one can see you sweat," a definite ladylike plus to water yoga, which takes advantage of water's buoyancy as well as its natural resistance to create a wonderful combination of aquatic conditioning and traditional yoga (without soaking your mat with streaming perspiration). Instructor Carol Argo shows viewers how to adapt poses such as the Warrior Triangle, the Child's Pose, and the Sun Salutation into a unique aquatic routine. Utilizing an underwater camera (for clear views of what's going on below the waist) and voiceover instruction, the program presents Argo in standing postures, wall postures and stretches. Admittedly, I was curious about how positions such as "downward facing dog" would transfer (wouldn't that be "drowned pooch"?), but the positions presented here, along with the focus on stretching, breathing, and meditation, adequately express the essence of yoga. The program concludes with a 12-minute lecture in which Argo, who doesn't appear to be very comfortable in front of the camera, discusses, among other topics, the difference between water aerobics and land exercise. Recommended. [Note: Also newly available at the same price, Carol Argo's Water Pilates.] Aud: P. (N. Plympton)
