Whether we kick a soccer ball or fry an egg, the laws of physics govern almost every activity in our lives. The study of physics gives insight into the inner workings of motion, light, heat, chemistry, astronomy, and many other areas. What is Physics? gives a solid, basic overview of this rather broad field from a historical perspective, beginning with the theories of motion proposed by Aristotle, and ending with applications of Einstein's Theory of Relativity. The information is presented in an organized manner, and clearly shows the far-reaching effects of classical and modern physics. Great visuals, illustrations, and computer animation accompany the straightforward narration, making the concepts easy to follow. Some interviews with scientists are a bit long-winded, especially when they begin to speak in more-than-basic terminology, but otherwise, this program is a good introduction to the subject for any physical science classroom. Recommended. Other titles available in the What is Science? series include: What is Science?, What is Earth Science?, What is Biology?, and What is Chemistry? Aud: J, H. (E. Gieschen)
